Joseba Bonaut, PhDHead of Film, TV and Digital Media Department - San Jorge University (Zaragoza)
Joseba Bonaut is currently an instructor and researcher at San Jorge University (Spain). He obtained his PhD in Mass Media Studies at University of Navarra (Spain). The title of his doctoral dissertation was "Television and Sport: the influence of sports programming in TVE's historical development during the monopoly of public television (1956-1988)". One of his main research interests is the evolution of TV Fiction formats (in british and American markets) and mainly the concept of quality in television. He also supervises the research group "Television and New Technologies: history, industry and reception" in University San Jorge which is specialized in TV Fiction Studies. On the other hand, he is an expert in Mediasport and the relationship of need between Sports and Television, especially in the Spanish and European case.
Joseba Bonaut is also very involved in the study of Spanish cinema and television history. Actually, he is working on the study of the development of these media along Franco's dictatorial regime (1939-1975) and its differences and similarities to other European totalitarian regimes. Also, he studies The Lord of the Rings film phenomenon.
Joseba Bonaut is a member of the European Network for Cinema and Media Studies (NECS) and the European Communication Research and Education Organization (ECREA). In 2008 he won the First Prize in the XX CAC Awards to Research into Audioviusal Communication (the main audiovisual council in Spain). He has published a couple of books about sports programming in Spain, various articles of TV Formats in journals along Europe and written chapters for so many books in Spain. He has presented several papers in English and Spanish in selected congresses in Spain and abroad.
